In a massive setback for England, ace speedster Reece Topley has been ruled out of the World Cup 2023 due to injury.
The tall left-arm pacer sustained a finger injury during England's previous game against South Africa and didn't come out to bat in the second half. He has been replaced by promising seamer Brydon Carse in the English World Cup squad.
Talking about Carse, the right-arm pacer has scalped 14 wickets in 12 ODI matches at an economy of 5.74.
Regarded for his ability to swing the ball upfront, Topley scalped eight wickets in three outings in the marquee event. In his absence, England will likely use David Willey and Gus Atkinson with the new ball, with Mark Wood set to play as the enforcer in the middle overs.
England have had a forgettable World Cup campaign, reeling at the ninth position with a single win in four appearances. They were crushed by New Zealand in the tournament opener before recording a comprehensive win over Bangladesh in Dharamsala. However, Afghanistan stunned them in Delhi before South Africa annihilated them in Mumbai.
So, moving on to their next fixture, Jos Buttler and co. would be keen to thump Sri Lanka and get two crucial points under their belt. (OneCricket)
